    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The role included assisting audit and assurance team with everyday tasks including attending client meetings, taking meeting minutes, reviewing financial data, building better understanding of audited entity and adhering to the legal requirements enforced by FRC and other regulatory bodies. It is a great starting point for somebody interest in career in audit and assurance. Main advantage was working on real clients, often listed on FTSE 100 and S&P 500. There was a lot of interaction with senior management and partners of the EY branch.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed better understanding of Audit and Assurance and had a great insight into how I can build my future career in this industry and what I can expect by joining company such as EY. Even though I attended half year Audit course within my university degree, the internship provided a lot more experience and knowledge required to be an auditor. It was a real life experience and due to being based on real accounts, I could use my previous knowledge and expand it during work on the clients. There was an internal platform offering unlimited amount of professional training so employees can develop in every field they want.

  • As an accounting student I was given quite a large amount of responsibility during my internship. As previously mentioned, I was working on a clients listed on FTSE100 and S&P500 so the scope of work performed was very wide. I had an opportunity to meet client management several times, work from the client site and perform wide range of tasks such as review of leases regulated under IFRS16, performing overall analytical review and review of group and entity financial statements.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I have received large amount of guidance from my buddy, but also from team members working on the clients I was assigned to. I could always ask questions and was never refused help. It was great to have such a great support from other employees, especially while performing more engaging but also more requiring tasks. I could always speak to my counselor and receive valuable knowledge in regards to self-development and future career in the industry.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement very much, to the extent that I did feel like it was only 2 weeks long. All of the aspects, work I was assigned to, employees I worked with, team and the office had huge impact on my perception of EY. I think this experience exceeded my expectations and I felt like I did not want to leave. I would definitely come back if I received an offer to return after graduating.

  • 7. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to EY
  • I would definitely advise to be open and be yourself. EY values should be matched to your personality to fully enjoy working within the company. Recruitment process took around 2 weeks, including assessment center, however it was not as lengthy as I expected. I would advise to speak up during the assessment center group task and build good rapport with others from day one, maybe you will see some of these people on the induction day. I would also advise not to be dismissive in regards to other participants' ideas but clearly make a point of your own thoughts.
