  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Daily work revolves around working with cross functional teams in technical and sales. Working with SMEs to understand testing and validation requirements for customer requests. Ensuring appropriate resource is assigned to project work and to ensure technical requirements are met for internal processes and customer needs.

  • Cross functional communication. Customer communication. Technical understanding of turbochargers. Internal validation and testing requirements for different components. Project management skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was responsible for entire projects during the course of completion. Additionally, since the role requires you to be in the same team throughout the year you understand project requirements and deliverables from start to end. On occasions, I was given responsibility for direct customer communications.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Working during the COVID meant a lot of onsite support was not available. However, team members were excellent in helping to understand system level aspects of the components and how they are affected. Additional technical training was also provided by the different technical teams.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Company culture is excellent with good understand of work/life balance. Everyone is supportive and makes you feel like a permanent member of the team as opposed to a temporary worker.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I was extremely pleased with my placement and the development they provided. Helping to grow soft skills in an industry environment is far more useful than anything that can be technically taught at university, as such being a unique experience only placement can provide. Technical skills acquired through placement are very enjoyable as well as it was interesting to see how in depth the analysis goes.

  • Ensure you jump into every opportunity available to you. Challenge ideas if something doesn't make sense to help improve your understanding and help the SME understand project requirements.
