    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I worked in the UK branch of JDE Peets, in the Human Resources and Recruitment department for the Retail Business Unit. I managed the current and upcoming Intern cohort from development and engagement to recruitment and onboarding. Within the recruitment part, the HR intern gets to explore how we can develop as an employer, imbed Diversity and Inclusion into recruitment by constantly challenging unconscious bias and ultimately match people to the jobs and teams that they will love and grow in. From the learning side, they schedule and communicate country wide learning programs, mandatory trainings, engagement surveys, team workshops and D&I socials and events. The HR Intern becomes the local expert in the online HR platforms and helps set up Insights Discovery days, award and feedback surveys, track cyclical appraisal deadlines is a helping hand to everyone with all things learning and development.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, each Intern is treated as an irreplaceable member of the team with a full placement of tasks, responsibilities and deadlines. Gradually, you are given sole-managed projects and individual task ownership. However, you are supported in these responsibilities by your manager and team members and are able to make mistakes.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • A lot. My manager / team were very supportive in checking in on how I was managing my workload, providing guidance, offering help and providing useful information and resources. I was also offered experience from the sales departments in delivery one of their projects, for cross-functional learning. If you work hard, use your initiative, and are friendly with everyone, people from all across the company are happy to go out of their way to help you succeed and achieve projects together.
