    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As a Legal Intern, I am responsible for reviewing NDAs and supporting lawyers in software sales transactions. This includes liaising with internal clients and getting involved in negotiations. Also, I assist with managing the SAP UKI Legal Team’s relationship with the external law firms we collaborate with. There are also numerous legal projects that I participate in and contribute to.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • My overall confidence in my legal and professional skills has significantly increased since joining SAP. In particular, I now have meticulous attention to detail which I have gained through reviewing legal documents. Efficiency and time management are skills I have developed as a Legal Intern that will come in handy when I return to my final year of university. Additionally, I have gained negotiation skills through this experience.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • The more I sought out work and showed that I could competently complete it, the more responsibility I was given within the team. For example, I supported a lawyer on a £7 million On-Premise deal and worked on Concur deals valued up to £50,000. I have also been responsible for organising training sessions with external law firms, which was an excellent networking opportunity.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • When you join SAP, as an intern, you are assigned a 'Buddy' to support you throughout your internship. My 'Buddy' was a lawyer within my team who arranged weekly calls with me to check-in on my progress and voice any concerns I have. I built a good relationship with my 'Buddy' and the Legal team who readily offered assistance and advice. We also had weekly team meetings and could raise any questions then.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I joined the SAP UK Business Women's Network and was surprised at how much I could contribute as an intern. We have hosted meaningful events such as "Back to Best" to help inspire, empower, and focus colleagues as we all get back to best during the pandemic. The SAP Diversity and Inclusions team is fantastic and host events and initiatives throughout the year.
