    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role is to support the Managing Director and the Chief of Staff at SAP. This consists of working on various internal and external projects, supporting with the project management and logistics. I am responsible for scheduling meetings, taking notes, scheduling project plans, building slide decks, managing Microsoft teams channels and producing Zooms. I mostly liaise with Senior Leadership Team members and their teams, which provides a great level of exposure.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have had the opportunity to network with colleagues from all across SAP and other companies, which has hugely increased my confidence. I have developed my PowerPoint skills by completing a course, which therefore improved my ability to present. I am also trusted to manage projects. I am able to produce and host a zoom workshop with up to 1000+ participants.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given the opportunity to lead several projects whilst at SAP. For our internal UKI transformation, I had the task of scheduling company wide workshops, creating one pagers, sending placeholders and liaising with a team of facilitators to ensure these workshops were seamless. I have been invited to all SLT meetings and therefore have great exposure into the organisation. I was also the direct contact for our partnership with the Prince's Trust.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My team had weekly meetings where we discussed what we were doing and if we needed any help. My manager and I had meetings on a bi-weekly basis, however if I ever needed help, I could always email and send a message on teams and I was called almost instantly every time. I also have a passion for marketing and SAP arranging for me to have a buddy in Marketing.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • For the most part of my placement, I worked from home and therefore it was in a virtual setting. However, since being able to go into the office, I have noticed a really positive and helpful environment -which we refer to as 'building bridges not silos'. I remember on my first day, I was told, 'If you don't know how to do something, somebody will - always ask for help', which was great!

  • - Do your research before the interview and application process. - Be confident and time conscious at the assessment day. - Ask for helpful contacts on day 1. - Network with employees and interns consistently. - Find your purpose at SAP and the tasks you enjoy for the placement. I was inspired to join SAP as I have a passion for CSR, and I love that their coffee provider is a homeless Social Enterprise called Change Please.
