    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My daily roles include presenting content analysis for sales directors, giving them meaningful insight of the current state of their business whilst supporting operational demands such as pipeline health and pipeline generation. I am also regularly involved in supporting and managing strategic project work streams within my team developing new proactive processes with a daily effort of achieving our corporate objectives of being a customer first company and a global cloud leader. Daily ad-hoc requests are expected, scope of work varies.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Alongside working with a team of top account executives and directors, I also underwent the Sales foundation course. Through both experiences, which included mentorship, I was able to gain an understanding of the sales process through value selling. Also, Prospecting, Presenting, Stakeholder management and story telling. I also built upon business acumen and industry knowledge and gained a deeper understanding of our solution portfolio. At SAP we adopt a collaborative approach to working as we are aligned to one goal. Such a culture has really developed my team working skills, leadership and communication skills. Naturally through projects I have also developed on my problem solving skills whilst maintaining an inclusive approach to all ideas.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Over my time as SAP, I was given great amount of responsibility. However my level of responsibility began to grow as my colleagues began to trust me. In my opinion, You are trusted based on your level of proactiveness, diligence and character. Through consistently going the extra mile on most of my tasks and remaining curious I saw my scope of responsibility grow as my manager and colleagues began to rely on me for meaningful insight and asking me to support on more strategic workstreams within my business area. I was then selected to join a new transformational area of our business responsible for driving our customer success initiatives. In this role I have been able to gain great exposure to a more strategic view of our business as a whole whilst being able to lead and support projects with market unit impact. Within such projects I have been trusted with sensitive information with great autonomy to carry out my designated project streams with focus more on output.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • At SAP, for me there were SO many touchpoints for support and guidance. Lucky for me I do a hybrid role so I actually have two managers who are not only supportive in helping me carry out my role the best that I can but also highly focused on my career development and hence also developing a mentorship. Through the sales foundation programme I was also assigned a mentor who has been amazing at providing guidance not just for the present but forward looking also. Aside from this the general willingness to help and listen. I have been able to develop strong support contacts through many areas of the business with even senior executives eager to help with advice and support carrying out your work.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • In a virtual world it's sometimes hard to sense a culture and atmosphere, however I've still been able to experience a very inclusive work environment where everyone is focused on a common goal, customer success. There is great focus on employee well-being, with encouragement not to overwork and the introduction of our Global Mental Health day. SAP are highly committed to making the world run better and this can be seen through a range of global initiatives focused on providing tangible impact.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I have felt like I have been consistently growing and developing my professional skills and gaining meaningful experiences which will shape my future. Working around professionals who are really on the top of their game is inspiring and I have learnt a great deal from them. Given this placement was adapted to working virtually it has exceeded my expectations through the scope of opportunities I have been able to take on. I would consider coming back to SAP post graduation for sure!

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to SAP
  • Firstly, be yourself, be authentic! SAP prides itself on their commitment to diversity and the culture embraces everyone's uniqueness so be yourself and let your personality come through I would say also, ensure you have an understanding of the company and the role you are applying for. Spend some time researching both and show your passion for both. Lastly, I would say spend some time thinking about why you would want to join SAP.
