    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role involves working on the release of all Disney content, including Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, TV and Fox on physical products (DVD and Blu-Ray) in 17 European markets. On a day to day basis, I manage and review release dates, packaging and technical specifications for upcoming releases across EMEA. This involves using a range of systems to run reports daily. I also create product briefs for new content, track competitor releases and conduct store visits in Westfield London.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Absolutely. I started my placement in late September 2020 and there was no handover period between the previous intern and myself due to the pandemic. Within the first few weeks, I was increasingly given responsibility and it was made clear by my managers that there is 'no intern work' as such meaning our work and input is just as important/significant as theirs. In December 2020, my team all took holiday meaning I was the only team member working over the Christmas period. This was a huge responsibility but it increased my confidence, independence and highlighted that my managers trusted me enough to work without any supervision.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Despite not having a handover period between the previous intern and myself due to the pandemic, my managers worked tirelessly to provide training, support and guidance on the job. I always felt comfortable to just pick up the phone and text or call my managers if I had a question or was unsure about something. We also have zoom calls twice a week to discuss any work that needs to be done and any questions we have.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture as Disney is very inclusive, diverse, welcoming and fun. I have weekly calls to discuss any news in the entertainment industry with all teams under the Walt Disney studios umbrella and this highlighted to me how friendly, engaged and welcoming employees are. It feels a relaxed place to work and like everyone wants to be there.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • My placement has been a fantastic, invaluable experience despite working from home and never being able to get into office. It has opened my eyes up to the working world and provided me with greater insight into what career I may want to pursue. Disney have recently started a Disney Intern Programme which allows you to meet and connect with interns all across the business through learning modules. This is really useful as it incorporates both education and socializing. My internship has definitely affirmed to me that I would love to work at Disney again in the future!
