My daily tasks in the role can change from day to day due to the variety of the role. For example, most days will consist of campaign reports, trend predictions, market research and brainstorming for collaboration ideas, alongside general admin based tasks. The role demands ability to prioritize tasks as and when they are needed. Therefore a day can be incredibly varied depending on the demand of business. This makes each day exciting as any task can be delegated to you.

My specific role allowed me to learn new skills and also develop new skills at the same time. Training is encouraged throughout the placement and I definitely recommend making use of this! Mandatory training is required as expected, but as an intern I was offered a training programme called the Disney Intern Programme, which helps you to develop skills such as teamwork, accountability, project management, time management & productivity. This was optional but I'm very impressed by the personal and professional development in myself due to this. I was offered a keynote course which was essential for me to perform my daily task efficiently and many skills also get developed from day-to-day.

During the placement I feel like I was given quite a lot of responsibility from the get go. The typical idea of an intern isn't how you get treated, you get treated like an integral part of the team and company. Therefore during my time with the company I was entrusted to do specific tasks that were of high responsibility from the start. This responsibility develops further throughout the year especially where you skills are highlighted.

I worked in quite a large team with different licensee groups, so regular meetings would be set up with each of these. I had weekly meetings with my line manager to catch up and keep in contact about what tasks I'm doing, if I can take on any more tasks or need to drop some tasks too. I felt like I was fully supported and was very lucky to be in such an incredible team. Despite my internship being over Covid-19 times, I didn't feel at all isolated or unsupported by my team.

The atmosphere and company culture was very positive and welcoming. I believe as the company is so large, this can depend on your team and the atmosphere of your team. I was very lucky and have never had any issues at all. The company partakes in learnings and educational training or podcasts on global issues such as diversity & inclusion, mental health week, sustainability and many more. The company definitely feels like it tackles issues and addresses them.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, from the work to the team that I worked with everyday. I've built a great relationship with colleagues and genuinely feel like I am apart of the team and valued. I loved the varied aspects of my role and how I was pushed to develop my skills further. The placement exceeded my expectations and I would return in a heartbeat if the opportunity arose in the future! I feel very grateful for the opportunities I was given and will use all the skills I have gained in my future career.

During the interview process I tried my best to stand out from the crowd. Try and get as much experience as you possibly can in your sector so you can apply this going forward, if your university does side courses, for example in sustainability, take these on as it shows initiative. Be prepared for any answer you could be asked and learn the company and role inside out. I didn't have an assessment centre but a second interview where I was set 2 tasks. Throw everything into these tasks and really show the team your skills and apply your experience. Be prepared for day one, make sure you are organized and have notebooks and a diary to keep track. If you really want the role they will see your passion and love for the role and brand. My passion was for collaborations within the fashion industry and this role fit perfectly to this, it really is a fantastic internship.
