    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my summer internship at Handelsbanken, where all the colleagues were very friendly and really made you feel at home. There were 10 other interns also at Head Office so didn't feel alone, and it has gave me a really good insight of what it is like to work in a Bank.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like colleagues as a whole valued me and treated me as if I was a full time employee. I was given tasks which a full time employee would be given, and by the end of my internship felt like a very well valued member of the Handelsbanken team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was always people around to help me should I need it, whether that be a manager or just other colleagues. They made it clear to me that if I had any questions about anything, no matter how stupid it may have seemed, they were always there to support and help me which was indeed the case.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days would be very busy and just what was needed, however there were other days in which I was left a bit bored and weren't many tasks for me to do. However, this was a case for the whole team, as it was just quiet days in which there was not much business to deal with.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In one of the teams I was in, I was given high levels of responsibility and would be doing all the tasks any colleague would do, whereas in the other team I was given slightly less responsibility and a lot of tasks such as filing. However, overall I was given a good level of responsibility.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed weren't particularly relevant to my degree, except from basic IT skills. However, the skills I did learn will somewhat help me in my future career, especially if that should be in a bank, as I have learnt various aspects of how a bank work which will be very useful.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A very friendly atmosphere, where everyone really gets on.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Overall quite well, initially an induction day to give an overview of the internship. Then just work in your assigned department(s) where you are trained and given work to do. Only complaint is that it took a long time to get access to all the programmes and applications needed to do my job.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    Travel loan

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Many jobs coming available for a bank which is growing especially in the Head Office. However, no official graduate scheme, if there was one I think the bank would be even more appealing to graduates.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 10 other interns at the Head Office and many other young workers, such as recent graduates. There were organised after work drinks, nights out, five-a-side football and touch rugby.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • What would be expected in a city centre, looking at £4-5 for a pint generally.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Lots of busy bars around in the city centre.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there are organised nights out, paintballing, cricket games, five-a-side, touch rugby, after work drinks and more.

    3/5
