Summer intern Review

Initially I was shadowing colleagues from different roles, such as private banking managers, corporate banking manager, and account manager support staff. Once I settled in I was given various projects throughout the weeks, one big one for the private side and one for the corporate side, I also took out time for learning, development, and networking. I spent time with a variety of clients during meetings which was also extremely interesting.

I have learnt how to analysis financial statements, developed my networking skills. I have also developed my knowledge on how to effectively manage a customer base, and how to pursue corporate clients and create a scope for potential profits. I have learnt valuable criteria in property valuation and loan processes.

I was given responsibility with ongoing projects, in which I had to present my findings to the corporate managers. I had interaction with customers as I got to go out in meetings, I was not authorized to carry out loan procedures myself as I was only an intern.

I received lots of support from my branch, my mentor, and many HR colleagues.

The culture was very welcoming, this is reflected in the employee relationships also.

I enjoyed it very well, as it was situated close to home and all of the colleagues were very friendly. Baring in mind I was not at the head office I feel like I have made the most out of the environment I was in.

Really understand and get familiar with the culture, and what differentiates Handelsbanken from its competitors e.g. its decentralized system. Handelsbanken operates in a different manner than the big high street banks, the bank is also very keen when encouraging its employees to develop transferable skills and progress through different roles. Please note, Handlesbanken do not have a grad scheme strictly for graduating students, so interns would not just get a general offer to return after university.
