    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Great structure to the internship in the sense that there was a good mix between 'tick box' tasks and also the freedom to do things to allow you to get out of it what you wanted. I really enjoyed being the only intern in the office: it meant I was given actual work to do which I know helped, it also lightened the load for the busy managers.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Yes I did. Members of the team would appear thankful for whatever I was doing for them. My 'branch mentor' often checked up on me and asked if there was anything more I would like to see / check how I was doing. Manager often took time out of his day to talk with me and about the stuff I was doing and how I was finding it.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone in the office were so helpful and even though I know they were so busy, they never seemed annoyed or as if I was bothering them when I would ask even simply questions.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Initially, not that busy because I was just getting used to the running's of the office and also the systems. However, I was progressively more busy as the internship went on and especially in the last 2 weeks when the AMS went on holiday I was really busy, which I really enjoyed.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Initially, not much. But as people went on annual leave / holiday I had to pick up their work, which really increased my responsibility. Can totally understand why I wasn't given much responsibility initially as I would have been ill-equipped and possibly would have really knocked my confidence for the remainder of the internship.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed throughout the internship probably won't assist my university studies, however they will definitely help my verbal and written communication skills, especially in the context of a professional environment. Also, the experience and exposure to the banking system has allowed me to figure out that banking and financial is something I would like to explore more in the future.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was very collaborate. Everyone seemed to be working together to deliver the best services for the customer and make their jobs as efficient as possible. The atmosphere was very fun and warming at times, which really aided with me feeling comfortable and valued throughout my time in the office.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • 3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They are appealing. All the employees I came into contact with really seemed to love working for Handelsbanken. We heard on multiple occasions from people, graduates as well as managers, how they have progressed through the organisation and how Handelsbanken really promotes and supports that. Some even talked about their experience in the internship.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • This isn't too relevant in terms of the people who were also undertaking the internship with Handelsbanken as there was only one intern per branch. But in Bath there were plenty of young people, young professionals and students who participated in the social scene of the city. Also, the city isn't too crazy that it means you have trouble sleeping at night, etc.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of living and socialising in Bath was really up to me. I could have eaten out or lived far away and had to commute, which would have been expensive. But I lived fairly close and prepared my own meals. So besides the cost of the accommodation, it was pretty cheap.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife is good in Bath. There is a wonderful variety of clubs, bars, restaurants for all occasions. Additionally, it is a very tasteful city so you can go to dinner with parents etc. as well as hit the clubs with mates. It really offers great flexibility depending on what you want and what you're feeling.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 4/5
