    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was a great opportunity for me and I enjoyed living and working as a CTR team member, because it was a combination of travelling, living in a city that I planned to visit since a long time, developing my language skills and creative writing skills. Four things that I love! Exploring the history and culture was also something I really enjoyed.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I believe that I was very valued in my team and from all the staff members. Our team was able to bring in and implement many of their own ideas. I found that very important and it was good for our project success. We had to implement certain specifications exactly and on time as a team. But there were also many opportunities for me to achieve what I found important and I was able to convince the other team members of that.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • In my direct team, I was very well involved and my contributions were considered very important. Someone from the permanent CTR staff was there for guidance and support during working hours and meeting times. I had challenging project tasks given with deadlines that were set. The team then could rely on me. I felt that the tasks were clearly communicated. The implementation in the given timeframe was not difficult for me.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was able to develop good communication skills and time management skills for myself. I did identify my strengths even more precisely and I have improved my creative writing skills and language skills. At the same time it was really fun to be part of the project team. For my future career I feel that I will benefit from knowing the CTR project structure and the process in details. Guess that is going to be helpful for later in my career.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured in my opinion. A plan or timetable with all meeting times for each day of the project was given and it was explained what the tasks and subjects for each meeting are going to be. The process, of what to do when, was explained professionally and documented well. I felt that the structure was sophisticated and made sense.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Friendly, focused, open, fun. I felt comfortable, because we always made good progress with our project tasks and I really enjoyed spending time with the other people in my team. We had some really long days to complete. Other days were not so long. In any case, it never got boring.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have received individual feedback for my articles. Something that was very important to me. There was also a regular opportunity to discuss individual progress with the journalists, staff members or the project coordinator of CTR. I felt that the CTR staff supported me well in my personal and professional development.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I think this work experience showed me new sites of project work and more options of how to organise a process as part of a project. And it gave me more ideas on how to use my skills in creative writing, research, team work and team communication even more effective than before. I had done short term internships before this one, but this project was the first work experience that I did abroad. So that made it very special for me. Overall I would say that I understand a full time role even better now.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • quite a lot especially because CTR was something that I did abroad. So culture for me was something that I had expected to deal with from the start. I was very keen in getting to know more about work and projects that CTR did during previous years so to have an ipression how things developed. The staff was very understanding about that and gave a lot of information in various meetings. I found the company culture there was a learning culture in a creative environment. Before I started, I hope it would be something like that. And I wasn't disappointed.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • it was surely valuable for me. I am now sure that I can fit into a creative team also in other countries. Because of my studies and what I love doing, I still want to be in the creative industries. I am not totally sure what exactly my job is going to be after leaving university. But I know that I will do really well in many job descriptions of the industry, which gives me a lot of confidence for the start of my professional career after univerrsity.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I knew it was unpaid when I applied for it. But I really wanted to join and I found a way to finance it. CTR offers to stay in one of their apartments and there's also a cost for the creative writing workshops and the tours for example. Most important for me was to have all the exact information on all the cost when signing the contract with CTR.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were meetings with various staff members we have worked with. Their journalists and media staff first of all. The people from our team involved in book and web design and photos met with their designer. From what I have seen, most were networking and connecting on social media with pleasure. Two of their staff told us that our guidebokk with all our articles and photos would be forwarded to their personal media network that they have build in a number of jobs and projects.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • We had appointments as a group with people that CTR is associated with. Most of them had to do with history backgrounds. Photography was one of them as well. We found it a good idea to have some questions or comments prepared for those appointments as the presentations went quick and the people seem to expect questions to be asked and comments to be made. People were willing to give their contact details for networking. To one place we were invited back for sitting and working in their work space.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • yes, ideas and suggestions for activities outside of work were given by a member of staff on the first meeting and more times after when asking. It mainly was about sports, music, dance, books and more meetings with locals. Some of it we did as a group, others never happened because some of us somethimes wanted to go out individually and there were too many options and ideas of what to do outside work.
