    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the experience! The experience was a little different from the norm and have very little grumbles. It incorporated quite a few different elements and i got to learn another language while working in the best team! The project was quite interactive and we were well supported. In my free time i also got to see alot of interesting areas which i researched while on placement ( i was a travel writing ctr researcher)

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • we had a great team with some different nationalities and we were all from similar backgrounds. Overall i think all were in the same boat and all were focussed on the same goal at the placement. The atmosphere in our team was friendly, fun and enthusiastic which made working a breeze although we did definitely have some challenges which i guess we overcame eventually.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • as the project as run many years the staff had undertook the project so many times. All were very supporting and brought a little humour in especially on some tougher days. With issues we had different staff to go to as all were specialised in different areas. To conclude i personally definitely felt well supported throughout the experience!

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • the project was on weekdays so mornings were often language classes then a break for lunch and then we either had group meetings or project activities or workshop seminars. we had evenings and weekends free. There was no official set times but i guess we were working 30- 35 or so hours per week if u didnt work in evenings ( i only did this once)

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • a fair bit but we were also monitored and any issues that came up we could go to the work shop trainers or language staff or even our assigned supervisor. The task was to simply complete the set items each week set during workshops. Those involved in layout had a great deal more and is more pressured as they had more sense of responsibility. They had layout support staff though.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • i think alot. I want to go into the educational study or even tourism field or similar so for me was very valuable indeed. It was a real life type experience with of course ups and downs but overall gave me a good feel for someone going into this profession or industry.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • exceptionally fun, interesting and eye opening! Mainly because i met so many people who were similar but very different at the same time. All though had similar morals although all had diffrerentbworking practices and different perspectives and personalities. I liked the environment and was a great deal better than any other internships or placements i had in the past as it was so diverse and not the typical mainstream.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • i think pretty well. There were of course the few small things but generally we were encouraged to give feedback. Some of the issues were rectified as quickly as possible. The project had a good general structure and i think the staff did adapt their style and working ways with some members of the team. They really did try hard to make us feel welcome throughout our stay!

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • this is a hard one to answer as i think the staff put in their most time with members of the team that were most involved and showed most enthusiam even when we hit sime challenges and things got more difficult. The support was always there and we were told that ctr used the projects to hire future staff which we did see evidence of some success stories.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • for me very as i am not sure if i want to do exactly the same as citytravelreview however this is for sure in the right direction in my case. I would like to work though for ctr in one of their other locations as i feel it is at least a great foundation and worthwhile working experience that could possibly open up many doors. Would be open if they do re-hire me ;)

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • yes for sure!! The social scene was optional but i got involved alot with the others in our free time. We hung out alot and time went by too fast! I still keep in touch with quite a few and have met some again sharing stories or memories. i suppose though the social scene is lucky as depends on who you connect with.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • overall a lot better than at home and you had to look at bars cafes and restaurants outside of the centre to really keep it this way. Cost of living in terms of food was wuite low if you have the discipline to remember to budget. We had a cheap supermarket near our accommodation also which was handy.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • in the area itself was kind of ok but not to my tastes so i and most others often took a tram further out which was closer to student bars, cafes and more the scene i enjoy. I went to see some live bands for example. Getting back was easy as the trams and public transport seem to work really well even late at night.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • yes..,,but this was up to you. i wanted to further my language skills so i joined a free club for a couple hours per week with others not at ctr. As said i travelled frequently on weekends sometimes independently but also with some orhers in the group. Evenings were also usually free time and used this a fair bit. Was outside a lot :)
