    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I currently study History so this ticked the boxes. I had an interest in German travel so where better was in Berlin with a great deal of History.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • We got guidance from the start and there was usually a supervisor on site for guidance.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I think as much as we needed. The project was quite straight forward. I attended most activities and was present at all of the meetings. There was extra support given if required.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was mainly concerned with the history from the start. I already had acquired the main parts of history about Berlin as we covered it in depth at Uni however there is nothing like seeing things in person. I cannot say there was anything new in terms of the knowledge although learning German and about modern culture in Berlin and Germany as a whole was an eye opener.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Most days were similar. We had to take part in language classes, workshops and had to be at various outdoor project activities and meetings. We had a timetable at the Orientation meeting. All in all most things stayed on schedule . We were updated by our supervisor on any changes or updates.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The working team was a little different from what I was used to. There were quite a few different personalities all with varying working experiences. It was never dull though!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It looked quite laid back from where I was. I would be interested in working fro CTR again but more as an historic guide showing others part of the city. The staff had a good general knowledge and I think most of them had quite a bit of on the job training. Atmosphere was pleasant and not pressured..

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • same as above comments.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • it gave me an insight it to other areas. I am still more interested in the history side of things and not so much in the travel/tourism industry but it was good to see both sides.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • There was a project fee each project member paid which included stuff like apartment accommodation, activities, staff organisation, workshops and so on. My parents paid the fee although some of the Unis sometimes do contribute if it meets criteria. I looked into this but I was not eligible. The fee depends on season and point you are recruited. I go in during 1st applications so I was told can be cheaper.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • we had project activities on the schedule. we went around to some organisations. Most were either media, writing, historic attractions but there were a few random areas as well which made it more thrilling! We were told that we could answer as many questions as we want and were free to network with organisations. There were set times for this. We had though to respect peoples' time so sometimes we had to be quick. We were free also to exchange names, emails - so the usual thing

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • same as last comments

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • yes at the orientation meeting and in the workshops. Information was always there. We were free to ask for most things but were given the impression only on set times not to interrupt workshops, language classes and other meetings

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • yes. Many of us all came on the project for different reasons. I came personally for the history but if you are interested in travel and tourism or media, creative things, geography learning a language culture then would say is worth pursuing. We had some team members' not so interested in the above or from completely different backgrounds. The one thing for sure is that the programme does not specifically focus on 1 area. So if there is only 1 area you want then would suggest a re-think.
