    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a great learning experience for anyone who has an interest in banking or finance. The internship is very hands on and active that students part taking have a real sense of what working truly is about and whether it is something they would like to do or not. It is also a chance to build on one’s character as you learn about your strengths and weaknesses each passing day. No day was the same therefore I was able to learn something new about the bank, branch and people each day

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel the staff were very willing to get me involved in as much as possible. I was entrusted with greater responsibility than I expected thus felt like a real member of the team. Working with my colleagues made me feel like a real trainee member of the team. Each branch is not too big or too small and feels like a work family as everyone is friendly with one another

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of guidance and support from my team. They made every effort to make sure I knew what I was doing before leaving the task to me. Also any questions I had they were more than helpful to provide answers for.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On some days I was very busy with different jobs come from here and there but other days the office was quite so it gave me time to catch up and do smaller admin jobs.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given as much responsibility as I was entitled to meaning that based on the level of my role my responsibilities did not make me feel like a child in a grown world. I was given the right balance of responsibility where I was able to undertake some of the smaller tasks as soon as I had learnt how to do it to allow the team work on more pressing matters that I would not be able to do

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel I will be able to take back the skills I have learnt towards my studies and use them as examples in my assignments, but also other skills have been improved such as time management and organisation which would be very useful in everything I do. As for beyond I will be able to these new gained skills in banking to use towards other professions

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was friendly and open. I had no worries approaching anyone in the team and even within the team they all commute easily with one another. It's an open fun yet serious atmosphere

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was well organised that they had enough for me to do most days however on the quiet days there wasn't much for me, an intern, to help with at my level of knowledge.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • An induction day was prepared to let new interns all meet on another and see the head office, as well as help settle everyone in. They also set up an intern buddy scheme where previous interns who are now official members of the bank would be paired up with the new interns as a way to having someone who had part taken in the scheme offer as much help and guidance as possible. Where an intern would fear asking the more experienced members they could ask their intern buddy to fill in the gap

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It's very appealing as last year's interns were mostly offered apprenticeships or jobs after or a further internship in the future. This is my second year taking part in the summer internship

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were a few other students around and young people but most all high school or college students rather than university students

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was a town centre so it was always busy with people and it's an average or just above average cost of living. Solihull is one of the more affluent areas around Birmingham

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not too familiar with the area

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was able to visit one customer and also got to see the type of customers the bank works with

    3/5
