About You
I really enjoyed gaining an insight into the culture of the firm and learning more about life as a trainee solicitor at Squire Patton Boggs. I found the practice group overview sessions to be informative and valuable in terms of developing my knowledge of the types of work that the firm undertakes for its clients.
During the summer vacation scheme, I sat in the pensions department and the competition department. As well as undertaking various research tasks and drafting legal memos, I assisted trainees with case preparation. I felt that my output was valued during my time at the firm and those that I worked with were always happy to explain the bigger picture.
I received a reasonable amount of guidance/support throughout the vacation scheme. My supervisors were approachable and happy to answer any follow-up questions that I had in relation to the work that I had been given.
The opportunity to gain exposure to practice areas where I hadn’t had prior exposure was invaluable. More generally, the vacation scheme gave me an insight into the types of work undertaken by a full service international law firm. I also learnt more about the commercial aspects of the provision of legal services.
The Company
The summer vacation scheme was very well structured. Vacation schemers were provided with a clear timetable from the outset, which outlined the dates and times of practice group overview sessions, social events and other activities.
The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming throughout at all levels of the firm. Everyone was approachable and willing to talk about their experiences at Squire Patton Boggs.
The firm's commitment to providing vacation schemers with opportunities to develop their skills and gain real commercial work experience was commendable and evident from the structure of the scheme.
The vacation scheme provided me with an invaluable insight into life as a trainee solicitor at Squire Patton Boggs. Everyone was willing to share their experiences with the firm and the current trainees were happy to discuss their experiences to date.
The vacation scheme was invaluable in providing an insight into the firm, its work and culture.
The vacation scheme confirmed my decision to pursue a career as a commercial solicitor.
Everything Else
There were numerous opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the firm.
The networking/social event opportunities provided informal opportunities to get to know other vacation schemers and our supervisors.
I discussed pro bono opportunities with one of my trainee supervisors.
I would absolutely recommend the summer vacation scheme to a friend.
