The Role
I did enjoy my placement year. The work was very technical so it took a while to fully understand the business. The company brand is fantastic and it will look very impressive on your CV, however the lack of graduate scheme reflects the level of support you will receive at times. I felt how much you enjoy your year can very much depend on the team/department you are assigned too.
Some employees are prior interns so they are very supportive. However you do seem to get the impression from some employees that you are "just an intern" and not capable of anything. I was never asked to make any cups of tea or anything though!
My manager hardly spoke to me and was always very busy. In his fairness however, he would always make time for me if i did ask for some support.
The work was seasonal so it depended on the time of year. In quiet periods I would often have to look for work to do.
My manager would occasionally come to me with tasks, but i felt he could of done this more often. I was never given typical intern jobs like making tea etc.. I did have proper responsibilities.
I think the company name on my CV and some of the processes I have experienced will help. However, it's frustrating that in such a technical business you can spend 6 months learning the job, 6 months working, and then you have to leave. There is also no graduate scheme..
The Company
Pretty quiet. There is a good intern community though.
There is a large amount of interns at the company so the processes were very well organised.
There were very little training sessions, however there were opportunities to have mock interviews etc.
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Travel loan
As i was a finance intern and I would only consider rejoining the organisation again once I was qualified.
The Culture
Yes - but this can depend on your floor. There is a facebook page set up to meet other interns.
Typical london prices, but the office is in Hammersmith so less glamorous.
Pretty poor. A few bars, but mostly pubs.
There is a triathlon team and a LGBT, but not much more.
