    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed being given real work which was helping the business, not only was this fulfilling but it also motivated me to work harder and achieve the best possible results for the team. I loved working within the employment department as I toughly enjoyed observing and assisting the team with the wide variety of complex and interesting cases. The week placement was extremely well organised and efficent, as well as being cram packed with exciting assessments and socials.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt extremely valued from the outset. Each member of staff where aware of the vacation scheme students, and each day was planed carefully meaning we always had work to be doing. The Walker Morris team at large were very friendly and welcomed diversity, which made me and my fellow students feel as if we were an integral part of the team.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Given that the vacation scheme was effectively a week-long interview, the guidance and support was not always readily available in that they wanted to see how you can preform alone and how you use your initiative. Saying this, however, where clarification, explanation or guidance was actually needed there was always a couple of people I could of turned too for some advice. I enjoyed being given large levels of responsibility, while also knowing that there was always some there to turn too if I had any burning questions or concerns.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Not only did my vacation scheme allow me to ascertain new skills, the information received and the responsibility undertaken allowed me to understand how the law is actually put into practice, something which a law degree fails to do. Furthermore, this placement re-confirmed my enthusiasm for the legal profession and enabled me to experience an unconventional area of the law, an area which I would not have originally thought about but now an area which I would love to qualify into.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • In comparison to other legal placements, WM's vacation scheme was extremely well structured and organised. Every day we had a clear break down of what was expected of us, as well as having a couple of socials and assessment days.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Despite the fact that the VS was a week-long interview, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that there was not a competitive atmosphere. Instead, the atmosphere was welcoming and professional.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think by merely having us students there for a week, and paying for our participation demonstrates just how dedicated WM is to recruiting and retaining first-class students. Furthermore, the firm provided the vacation scheme students with ample information regarding their training contracts and how we would be trained and developed within the business if we were to obtain such employment.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Given that two days of our placement was spent solely in our designated department, I believe that the placement give me a fair understanding of what it would be like to have a full time role within a law firm, especially considering that I often came into work early to get a head start of some assigned work.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • N/a

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I never considered wanting to be an employment lawyer, however having undertaken this unique opportunity I now aim to obtain additional experience in the employment sector. Allowing me to experience a new area of the law allowed me to decide which electives I am going to chose when studying my LPC, thus this placement was hugely valuables in helping me decide on my future career paths.
