I really enjoyed my placement year and the tasks I was involved in. I felt extremely valued and supported by everyone I worked with. The team were very welcoming allowing me to feel part of the team. I worked on a variety of interesting tasks and was given a various of roles which helped me develop my understanding and knowledge of planning in practice. I was never short of work and was given prior notice of the tasks which will be given. The knowledge I have gained throughout this year will stand me in good stead for my final year at university. Overall I found my placement year hugely beneficial, and Arup being a brilliant company to work for.
My placement year was fruitful, intense and rewarding. Amazing people on my team, with a significant drive to reinvent the built environment, inspired me to always do my best and strive for the excellent quality in everything I do. I was lucky to work with professionals who were always eager to help and show me the best way of completing the tasks. I ascertained that Arup is my dream company, a workplace that I will definitely come back to as a graduate student. Furthermore, I had a profound insight into the industry, which showed me different construction career alternatives.
I have immensely enjoyed my time at Arup and it has provided me with great knowledge of building engineering. I have gained a good understanding of electrical building services, as well as how electrical design work is done for buildings. I have also been able to use various industry standard software to perform this design work, and to discuss design proposals with both the internal team at Arup, as well as clients externally. My work has been quite varied and interesting.
A lot of the work had very steep learning curves but with appropriate support systems so they were doable and therefore the work is very rewarding. There were also lots of opportunities to socialise with people around the company, which made the placement more enjoyable.
I truly enjoyed my year-long placement with the Water Team. From the environment in the office, the company's culture, to the type of work involved, it is definitely one of my best year among my university years. I am glad to have the opportunity to work in the UK, which is an international exposure to me (being an international student). The placement provide a step closer to the professional world and the chance to meet people from all walks of life and understanding different culture.
It has been a wonderful experience overall. I find it exciting to work in office environment especially to attend meetings in the morning. I found it innovative experience that motivated me throughout the whole year to adopt something. I enjoyed working in a team and learnt to meet objectives of the project collaboratively.
Was a great insight into my future career path. Most of the time the work was really engaging and it was great to get some office experience. The placement provided a diverse amount of project work, client meetings and site visits. The social aspect of working for Arup was also good with ‘pub of the month’ after payday, Christmas parties, weekly sports nights, etc
I really enjoyed my time at Arup. I was excited to go to work and rarely dreaded the thought of it. I found it a very positive environment even as I started working from home. I felt that my placement year gave me a better understanding of the industry and allowed me to put into practice what I learnt in University. I also know that what I have learnt over the course of the past year will be very beneficial to me as I finish my studies at university.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Arup. Throughout I have found the experience to be exciting, challenging, and thought provoking. I am extremely proud to have developed good working relationships within the company whilst also developing my skill set and confidence.
I completed my placement with the Bridges Team at the Arup Cardiff office. I have enjoyed every aspect of daily work and have learnt a lot from this year. I felt that I was working amongst very talented people and they have given me plenty of support to make sure I get the most out of my experience. Although the second half of it was working from home, I did not feel that it affected my overall experience.
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement from start to finish. It was great to be placed into a team which more closely aligned with my career aspirations and interests compared to previous placements I have had. The project work given to me was very interesting and enjoyable, varying from large scale infrastructure project to smaller scale pavement design works. I felt valued by the team, being given tasks of responsibility on project work, and roles to assist team management.
My placement was very enjoyable and was a very good varied experience. Through my placement year I had to opportunity to get involved in a wide range of projects and really gained some valuable design and management experience. I was able to manage my workload well and take part in extra curricular activities. The work life balance is very good, so it also served as a nice break away from University whilst learning in a different environment.
The intership allowed me to grow my knowledge in the industry field and to build my confidence of being a woman engineer in a fierce and competitive industry. The past 7 weeks have been brilliant and I couldn't recommend it more to students wanting to go into the field of engineering.
Varying range of projects involved in with different levels of involvement. However, the main project for which took up the majority of my time, was not related to the skill set I chose the placement for. However, other projects I was able to demonstrate and practice skills.
I thoroughly enjoyed my summer placement. The team made me feel welcome from day one. The team made sure that I had a variety of work to do during the placement. I really enjoyed working on various projects during my short time at the company. It allowed me to gain a wide range of knowledge and skills.
Overall I enjoyed my placement with Arup. Worked on High profile and challenging projects. Worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The team and staff were all easy to work with and very friendly. It was a very comfortable and relaxed environment to work in and not too heavily pressured. The ethos of the company really stood out in all their dealings and they clearly have a concern for employee well being. Lots of support from staff and management and very engaging.
During a 12-week period of this summer, I was honoured to have had the chance to join and work for Arup as a vacation student, at their office in Sheffield – UK. Having an engineering background, I have had the chance to work with different teams within the office, hence, being able to participate in a range of real-life projects.
During my time at Arup I was fortunate to work on a numerous prestigious projects with some of the best engineers who went above and beyond in guiding me through the year and teaching me. Beside a vibrant work environment I had wonderful socials and made good working relations with many colleagues and made some best friends.
