    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Reporting to my line manager within the structural engineering department for things to work on and designing structural aspects of different projects to Eurocodes, aided by a recent graduate 'buddy' assigned to me after I accepted my internship offer.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed existing skills and seen how what I have learned at university having been specialised in Civil Engineering for a year relates to Structural Engineering in the real world. Some topics I have been introduced to at university have also been explained to me in more depth here, as well as their impact on structural design which sets me up well for the final year of my integrated masters.

Everyone clearly valued each other's contributions and were pleased to be working together. • Make sure to discern why you want to work for Arup and convey that properly at interview. What transferable skills to you have from at / outside of university and/or school that make you the best person for the job? Make sure you take your time and generate lots of ideas to put across during the Assessment Centre / Interview once you're given your topics to discuss. Interest is key.
