  • I was part of the data centre team and was given responsibilities to work on research and design tasks.

  • I was given the chance to develop existing skills, but also I learnt so much about data centres which I previously knew very little about.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, but I was always able to query anything that I felt unsure of and everyone was happy to answer anything I wanted to know. I never felt abandoned on a task, but did get the chance to independently work through tasks which I was responsible for.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I couldn't have had a better experience in regard to the people I worked with. I received so much support from every person I met. No one was 'too important' to answer anything I wanted to know. I felt like part of the team immediately.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone is very friendly and it is clear that that is an attribute that is important to the company. I was always made to feel very welcome and comfortable.

  • I had a really lovely time on my placement and I would definelty recommend it to anyone wanting to be in this industry. I gained so much technical knowledge and confidence from being here.

  • Yes


  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Arup
  • Be relaxed and friendly. They want to know you as a person, not just how well you can study. Read up about the company and ask questions (before you join and after) about anything you want to as that will only improve your ability and prove your desire to be there. They really invest in their people, so you need to show you are invested in them too.
