The Role
I absolutely loved working for ASOS. I looked forward to going to work everyday and made some really good friends and it was amazing to be surrounded by product on a daily basis!
I felt extremely valued. I was often asked lots of questions to help others complete their job role and I regularly supported new team members in learning how to use software when needed!
I felt supported and part of a planned internship-training scheme, which involved regular catch-ups and training sessions and I felt valued, respected and invested in. Every 6 months at ASOS bi-annual objectives are set, which highlights areas to focus on to improve key skills in aspects relating to your job role.
ASOS is an extremely fast paced company so throughout the year, I was very busy but this meant I was never bored! Every day brings a new challenge or an exciting task to be getting on with, for example conducting a comp shop, visiting suppliers or attending range building meetings!
Lots of responsibility, as although an intern, you are doing a complete buyer's assistant role. I dealt with the daily tasks from product to site, allowing more senior members of the team to focus on tasks that will benefit the team in the long run, for example, the assistant buyer can consider action points for the upcoming weeks and the buyer considers the whole season and team objectives.
ASOS really encouraged my development, and I took advantage of all opportunities available to attend courses to improve my skills in aspects relating to my job role, from a 1-to-1 excel course to develop my excel skills to help manage my critical path, to a confident presenter course to improve my presentation skills. I now have a greater understanding of the industry as a whole, therefore I will recognise concepts we are being taught in my final year at university and have first-hand industry experience to apply to my studies. When I have finish my degree I feel confident that I will have all the skills needed to be successful in a career in fashion buying.
The Company
There was a ‘work-hard play-hard’ atmosphere throughout the office. Everybody was very busy but there was a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Everybody sat in teams relating to their product area so you got to know everyone in your team really well and we'd often play music whilst working. It was a great working environment!
The placement scheme was extremely organised with structured training throughout the year. It started with a handover week from the previous intern so we could learn and receive advise from somebody who actually undertook our role – this was really helpful! HR also arranged an intern lunch where we got to meet the CEO and even a photoshoot so we could update our LinkedIn profile photos!
I felt completely invested in. We had planned intern training sessions throughout the year and there were endless opportunities to attend extra classes to improve skills more specific to our personal development. For example, to improve my presentation skills I attended a confident presenter course and was always given constructive feedback every time I presented throughout the year.

Although ASOS are unable to guarantee a job after uni, I think the prospects are promising and I'd definitely return to ASOS if a job were to become available!
The Culture
There was a great social environment throughout the whole company with no expense spared when it came to the company and menswear parties! Every Friday we finished early with free ‘Friday Beers’ at the end of each month. There was also a great social atmosphere within my team with regular team social events outside of work.
The cost of living in London is expensive, but by renting accommodation walking distance from work I saved money on travel costs and I’d always make lunch to bring to work. I never found money an issue when socialising - there are endless things to do in London for every budget!
Great nightlife in Camden!
ASOS always sent emails notifying us of activities outside of work, for example Friday beers or a pub quiz. I attended regular exercise classes before/after work and there are a wide range of sports teams to join e.g. Netball/Football. There were endless great opportunities to get to know people from around the office!
