    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight was really very enjoyable, with some really friendly people both all over the firm, and in the Vacation Scheme itself.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • There is a feeling that the Vacation Schemers' work is sometimes only given out as a means of giving us something to do, rather than being anything of real use to the firm. However, some of the work was clearly something that needed to be done, and in that respect I did feel valued a lot of the time.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • There was good guidance on the Scheme, although more effort could have been put in, perhaps, when we were in our seats themselves. Supervisors varied vastly in terms of how much support was actually given.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The work I've done will be incredibly useful in studying law, and will be even more helpful when I eventually come on to having to apply that knowledge practically.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The Scheme was structured well, with a few social events as well as a general feeling that we always had somewhere to be.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Reed Smith is an incredibly friendly firm, and the other vacation schemers were great, too.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The various training sessions were good, and some of them great, particularly the Commercial Awareness session. More effort could have been put into educating us about the different practices of the firm, though.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The Scheme gives a pretty good idea, although the hours are considerably more forgiving than I'd expect as a full-time trainee or associate.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I found out a lot about the friendly culture of the firm, as well as its lawyers' attitudes towards their work.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I always already sure that this was the route I was going down, but Reed Smith helped confirm that.

    5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Pay covered my travel and accommodation, with a little left over.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There was good opportunity to meet the other Vacation Schemers, as well as the trainees - though it is always difficult to meet partners and associates.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They were fun and a good opportunity to talk to the staff in an informal environment.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There are a lot of sports events to get involved with, as well as there being quite a few social events.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely.

    5/5
