    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed this internship at Reed Smith. It was a really great learning experience and I vastly developed my knowledge of what a role in Public Relations involves. The team was extremely welcoming and I instantly felt at ease, making it a very enjoyable four weeks spent at Reed Smith LLP.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was fantastic and ensured that I got the most out of this internship. My manager involved me in all of her projects and I was able to attend interesting meetings, meeting an array of staff across the firm. My manager explained everything to me very well and was always on hand to answer questions. In addition to this, the rest of the team were very supportive.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I worked 9 until 5:30 during the internship at Reed Smith and I remained busy throughout the day. I was given lots of projects and pieces of work to complete, and in addition to this, there were various meetings to attend, which meant I always had something to be doing.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility, but as I was only there for a short period of time, there was a limit on the amount that I could do. The focus on this internship was mainly on learning new skills and gaining an understanding of PR, therefore I spent the large majority of the internship shadowing staff.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I found this internship at Reed Smith LLP immensely beneficial in terms of personal development, vastly expanding my knowledge of what Public Relations is and the skills that are needed to succeed. This internship cemented my intentions of pursing a career in PR and this internship is a vital addition to my CV.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a great general atmosphere in the office. Everyone was very driven in their individual roles, but also very welcoming and friendly.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Despite this being a more ‘informal’ internship, the set up was very good. Before starting at Reed Smith, HR was in frequent contact and I was provided with all the information that I needed before beginning. My line manager had organised a comprehensive programme of activities and tasks for me to complete.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt well invested in at Reed Smith LLP. My line manager was very focused on my personal development and set me tasks designed to stretch my ability and develop new skills. There was no ‘official’ training as such, as this was an off-cycle internship, however this meant I had more individual attention from the team.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future career prospects are very appealing at Reed Smith LLP and I am hoping to return to the company once I finish my studies provided there is a role within the team. My line manager has stayed in frequent contact with me since leaving, keeping me up to date with the latest roles available.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were no other interns at Reed Smith at the same time as me as this was an off-cycle internship, however my team was very sociable. We would have lunch together most days and would occasionally socialise together in the evenings. There was a good team spirit and everyone was very friendly.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being based in London, the cost of rent was high. I was reimbursed travel and some living expenses, however this was not a paid internship and therefore I did not save any money. I did this internship for the experience and therefore was willing to spend some of my own money in order to undertake it.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Lots of bars and restaurants near the office.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, various sports teams.
