    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I very much enjoyed the placement, both in terms of relationships built and knowledge picked up.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued - there were a number of helpful events planned for us to learn more about law and the firm and to network, and my department surpervisors were also on hand to answer any questions I had.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • All our work in departments was supervised and I never felt like I couldn't ask people for guidance. The assessment centre was clearly explained to us and we were able to get in touch early about anything we might need.

    3/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I'll be able to prioritise the law I learn on the GDl now I know what kind of law commercial firms practice - and more importantly, how they practice it.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured - in addition to an equal amount of time spend across two departments there were several events such as presentation, negotiation and mock tribunal exercises to allow us borad yet in-depth understanding of law.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Very, very friendly - with a big focus on pro bono too, to an extent quite rare among law firms I've spent time with. Everyone is happy to chat and answer any questions you have, and the whole training contract process is done via an assessment centre to ensure fairness.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Several training sessions in areas like business development, presentations, negotiations and advocacy. Supervisor work which aims to teach you more about the process of commercial legal work - I never felt like I was doing something unimportant.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I got to expereince moving between departments, just like a real trainee, and was able to network with employees of all levels. Given responsibility when it came to the special events.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I got to see that the friendly image Reed Smith projecvts wasn't just put on for an open day or interview, but is a real part of the firm.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I was able to reconfirm my interest in becoming a solicitor and the focus on pro bono at the firm made me sure it was a job you can go into because you want to help people.

    4/5

  • I was paid £330 per week - the highest vac scheme renumeration I've experienced.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Very many opportunities - including HR directors, partners, senior associates and trainees, and in a variety of situations. I was also able to speak to people at senior levels throughout the firm just by getting in touch with them.

    4/5

  • Great fun whether cocktail making or bowling, I always felt part of a team and included in the firm.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes - I spoke to many people about social activities and Pro Bono/CSR work, and the firm was especially keen to emphasise these. Through a talk with Learning & Development manager Nigel Spencer I also learnt about the firm's focus on business matters and networking outside of work which is very much encouraged.
