The Role
I loved my placement year, and retrospectively, if given the opportunity I would apply for my role within my department again without hesitation. It has been a very positive experience!
The team environment in my department will certainly be hard to beat. The whole team has a large amount of respect and time for each other, and it really did feel like a family.
Where necessary, guidance and support was always available. It was made clear at the beginning of the placement year, that all staff in the department were approachable, even if they weren't my direct line manager, and I certainly found this to be the case.
As with any job, there were times where I was busier than others. However, if I felt my workload was too heavy/light I was able to approach my line manager to discuss and find the right balance!
One of the best things about this placement was how much responsibility you are given. It's challenging, but really rewarding! I didn't feel like I was an intern, but instead an integral part of the team.
Skills such as time management and application will certainly assist me in my final year studies! Beyond that, I've developed so many skills, through day to day working and the vast amount of training days available to interns.
The Company
The environment was such a positive one to be in every day. I'd say that the environment was usually very busy, and obviously getting through your workload is important. However, team members were always willing to chat and it was easy to joke with others. The whole team really did get on like friends.
I don't have a bad word to say about how organised the whole placement was, it was seamless!
There are a number of learning and development courses which are available, and interns are encouraged to get involved in, throughout the placement year.

It says a lot about the company that people that work here stay in the business for a long time, therefore job offers aren't hugely available. However, on my placement I have been able to make a lot of industry contacts which will be hugely beneficial for future job prospects.
The Culture
There was always events on organised by interns, and my team would often go to the pub on a Friday night.
I lived at home, so cost of living was very cheap for me! Socialising is expensive, as it's the placement is in London, but not extortionate.
The placement is in really close proximity to Covent Garden, where the nightlife is great, and transport links in London are so easy that there's always somewhere new to try.
