    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It gave me invaluable insight into the music industry and I came out of it with sound knowledge about the "real" world. It has also made me realised how big the Universal network is. I knew it was the biggest label in the world, but I never knew how much power it really has until I had acces to their intranet and saw the global campaigns and priority artists that had to be promoted all over the world.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • They were lovely but I did feel under-estimated when it came to actual work. I felt at times that they were being quite reluctant to new campaign ideas and initiatives. It is, however, understandable that they wouldn't want to try new things coming from a student, as they were the ones with the experience.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All the tasks I have been set were clearly explained and whenever I needed support, all I had to do was pick up the phone and ask.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It was very relaxed and for the first wekk they let me look at all the company documents and research to familiarise myself with what Universal is all about. I loved it! and then I had the days when I would be set tasks that had to be completed by a certain time. It was a little stressful, but overall, they gave me full flexibility and I could even do the work at home at times.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had very little responsibility overall, which was probably due to my status as a student. They had never had an intern before so they didn't really know what to expect.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I didn't get to do much of the actual PR work, as the term "PR" seems to mean something completely different in Romania. But, as I said, I have learnt a lot about the industry and the resources available were very eye-opening.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was rather quite and I was assigned a desk where space was free so I ended up with the Digital team, which I had nothing to do with in terms of tasks. But everyone in the office was very friendly, yet very focused and stressed about the coming up events. After all, it is a record label - things can get pretty intense.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As I said, I was the only intern they ever had so they were as confused about the internship as I was, but we worked it out in the end.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was no training available.

    1/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Working from home

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It has put me off working for a big record label in general, as it would be a very very long route to get to an half-decent position within the company. But if you're the kind of person that doesn't mind always having a boss and is not very bothered about the slow promotion process, than one of the Big Four is definitely for you.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I had no one in the same position as me.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I stayed at my brother's, who lives in central Bucharest. He paid for everything so I don't have a clue :)

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Brilliant! Bucharest is a lovely city, especially the old city.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I knew no one so I didn't even look at aything.
