    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my internship, it has been a wonderful experience. There are so many things I have been able to be a part of and get to learn about. It’s great having the opportunity to gain hands on industry experience and I know that everything I have learned will help me with any jobs in the future. I have really been tremendously lucky, I couldn’t have asked for a better internship with better people.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues are all tremendously helpful as well as appreciative, they never take advantage and are always thankful for the help you have provided. Additionally they haven’t treated me in a manner that makes me feel like an intern, I feel like part of the team and I feel that there is a mutual respect that everyone has for one another in the workplace and this has been extended across to me as well makes a big impact.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone has been fantastic, they have given me enough guidance to feel secure and readily prepared for the tasks at hand but also given me the freedom to do them in my own way without hoovering over me. This has been tremendously valuable because it has allowed me to progress in my own way and to get to really immerse myself and understand things. Everyone has been great at teaching me how to do things, and not just telling me so that I am actually able to learn and understand what I’m doing. I also know that whatever I am doing everyone is always more than happy to answer any spur of the moment questions that might come up, or help me with anything at any time!

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I stayed very busy day to day, there are always a number of things I have to do or am working on at the same time. Which is exactly the way I want it to be! Although there are certain reports I do on different days of the week and then some tasks that I do every day I always have a lot of things going on that I work on as they come up. It’s nice because it offers both stability and a variation of things to do. If I ever find myself looking for something to do (which I can’t recall happening) I know that if I ask my Managers if there is something they need a hand with, there is always something that needs to be done. It makes the time fly by!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel like I was given a great deal of responsibility, but in the exact proportion that I would want. Not too much that it was overwhelming but enough to where I was able to feel independent and know that people were counting on me. I prefer it that way, it’s nice to be needed and to know that the work you are doing is going to affect somebody in some way.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that everything I have learned and all of the skills I have developed will have a tremendous impact on the rest of my degree and will go far beyond that. I now have a great insight into the dynamics that exist within a company and how every department works together to function as a whole. Working at Urban Outfitters has really opened my eyes to so many different professions that I didn’t even know existed before I started working here. I have a much greater appreciation for what each person does and how important each person is to the company. Having industry experience is invaluable and has prepared me for anything the future may have to offer.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office atmosphere is generally very positive and welcoming, some days are really quiet and everybody is busy focused on their work. Other days it is quite lively and everybody is really chatty. Everyone is incredibly friendly and I am always excited to go in to work. There is typically music turned on in the background which I think creates a really productive environment.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The workplace is fairly organised, it really depends on what is it is. Different people work to different levels of organisation and I was lucky that everybody I was working with stayed really organised. It also just really depends on what was going on at the moment, some days/months were busier than others. However I think in any environment there is always room for improvement when it comes to organisation, I don’t think anybody is ever as organised as they would like to be.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Every day was a learning experience and I was constantly being taught new things, depending on what projects I had going on. My managers were great about checking in with me to see what I was enjoying and if there is anything I was interested in learning more about. The door was always open to take on new tasks and to ask questions so I felt like I was constantly learning and improving.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would be thrilled to come back and work for Urban Outfitters, they are a really exciting brand, with a very talented team of people that I loved being around. Although I haven't been offered a job after my internship if any opportunities open up in the future with the company I would love to come back and work for them!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a good social aspect in the office amongst my colleagues, and especially on my team. I really connected with everyone and got to know them and it was great going out for drinks after work. The office would sometimes go out together as a whole and that was always a great chance to get to know everyone a little bit better.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London in general isn’t a cheap but I was so lucky with the area that I worked in. Covent Garden is surrounded by everything you could possibly need and has such a variety of things. The location gave me the option to spend as little or as much as I wanted.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The Nightlife in the area that I worked was very lively and young. There were a lot of fun bars, clubs and restaurants around and there is always something fun going on. I was never short of anything to do and there is definitely something around there for everyone!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I wasn’t very involved with any activities going on outside of work. Although I’m sure if I would have expressed more interest for this or tried to put something together that others would have joined, or happily come up with activities to do. There were social things that I would do with my colleagues outside of work that didn’t necessarily consist of an activity.
