The Role
Loved my year at ASOS, everything I learnt has been invaluable to me from learning about the job role to getting a feel for working life post-gradutation. The placement scheme was set out in a really good way, I felt supported the whole way through the year but also valued as part of the team. It was great to be able to have sessions learning about other departments too and getting a real feel for the industry. I loved the atmosphere of head office, everyone was very friendly and approachable.
Very valued. It did not feel like I was there temporarily and when I was leaving people had forgotten that I wasn't there permanently! I was given responsibilities and treated in the exact same way as permanent employees.
My manager was very supportive of me, pushing me to acheive as much as possible. He went out of his way to let me experience aspects of the job I didn't within my role. They really helped me out with my uni work and understood the pressures that was adding to my workload. I was never turned away when asking for help or for a bit of information about anything for example learning more about the merchandising role to help me understand more wholly. The learning and development sessions with other interns were a great chance to get some good training and catch up with the others!
Busy! There were particularly busy times around October/ November in the run up to Christmas and then it was quieter in January. Overall, there was always something to be getting on with but if I felt like it was getting too much there would always be someone around to help me out.
More responsibility than I was expecting! I was carrying out the role of the Buyers Admin Assistant just as a permanent employee would do. Once I had got to grips with the role my manager added tasks to my workload and let me get more involved in the higher level stuff.
Having been back at uni for 2 months already, it is very clear how much my placement year will benefit me within my last year of studies. I can recognise concepts we are being taught and have first-hand industry experience to apply to my work. I know that I want to go into a career in Buying so it is also helping me to focus my studies on this goal where possible. I am used to working under pressure which has helped with the high number of deadlines in final year.
The Company
The atmosphere was really relaxed and friendly. Everyone was there to get their jobs done but you didn't feel like you were in a stressful environment at all. I looked forward to going to work everyday and made some really good friends. It was fun to just be surrounded by the product on a daily basis!
Very well organised. There was a structure to our training over the year and the teams were used to having interns so we had a weeks overlap with the previous intern to train us up. That was incredibly useful!
I felt they invested a lot in us. We had monthly intern training sessions on the systems and also giving us some info about other teams such as the international side and the marketplace side. We could also attend any of the other training sessions we wanted to and had development days to check on our progress and highlight any areas for improvement and where I was doing well.

Very appealing!! The HR dept have stayed in touch with me about the process and to see if I want to return. ASOS is a great company to work for and I did not feel ready to leave after the 12 months. I would jump at the opportunity to return as a permanent employee.
The Culture
Yep! Friday beers put on by ASOS on the last friday of every month and 3pm Friday finishes in summer was also a bonus! Everyone was very friendly and social. It's good to make good friends with the other interns as you are going through the same process and we really helped each other out! Also ASOS Christmas and Summer parties were so much fun!! Menswear also did social events and parties which were always very good nights!
Being in Camden, north London is very expensive! But everyone managed to get by and it helps having ASOS discount to ease the stress of buying clothes.
Camden has a really good reputation for nightlife. Very easy to get to all the popular places in London too so never short for good opportunities to go out!
I played for the menswear netball team where we had matches every week. Great opportunity to get to know people from around the office!
