    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a great experience to work for an international company. Working for Mercedes-Benz helped me develop a wide variety of skills such as Time Management, Meeting Deadlines and gaining valuable Marketing knowledge for my future career.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • We were all part of the same team with the same goals and objectives. Being a placement student naturally meant I got great guidance and follow ups with my supervisor which greatly contributed to my personal development.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • If I were unsure about a particular task or how I would have to go about, my managers and supervisors were always very helpful and patient.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Workload very much depended on the day. Sometimes I would work non-stop and stay in later hours to get a job done, other days were pretty relaxed of course never nothing to do.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was not considered as a placement student but as a full time employee within the team. My responsibilities increased throughout the year and many of my duties were Executive level.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Time Management and meeting deadlines are the two skills I will rely on the most on this final year. I have learnt that the key to good revision and learning is to always keep track of time and have some kind of revision strategy to rely on.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great atmosphere around the company with graduates and other placement students. The Marketing department was always very welcoming and full of interesting people.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was well organised from my team's perspective. HR did not give us much guidance and help through the year.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • During my second week, I attended an introduction to the Mercedes-Benz range at the Training Centre with Oliver Marler (Official Mercedes-Benz Trainer), learning about all the safety features like Pre-Safe or Distronic Plus offered across the range and general knowledge about the company and cars. I also drove a selection of the vehicles around Milton Keynes to get familiar with the drive performance and handling which I think was a great way to make me enthusiastic about the brand. Approximately 3 months into my placement, I attended a 2 days JATO Specs and Model Mix/Volumes training in Rickmansworth with one of my colleagues. This sophisticated system allowed us to compare and make detailed analysis between the various models and makes registered in the UK. It provides us with Value Analysis, Option Reports, Standard option reports and Price Premium Reports. This is an interesting tool to use, price premiums being the main reports we would run here at Mercedes-Benz. I also had the chance of having German lessons every Wednesday for 10 weeks between 12:00 and 1:30. This gave me an insight into the Germanic language and helped me gain confidence for my oral communication.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Car

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We were only 4 placement students all working in different departments which made it hard at the start. However we got more comfortable and settled, we got to meet a lot of new graduates and younger employees who were always up for a night out and partying.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not too expensive, accomodation was fairly cheap in Milton Keynes with a huge Tesco's 5-10 min drive and good pubs and Central bars and clubs.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Great bars for pre-drinking and a decent amount of clubs which were always a good night out.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Gym, Football, Babminton, swimming, GOLF... and many others.
