The Role
The placement was thoroughly enjoyable, ASOS was a great, fun company to work for. The best part was gaining all the experience, and understanding how a retail company operates.
All the work I did contributed to the department, so this was valued and recognised.
I had weekly 1-2-1 meetings with my line manager, who was very supportive, and would provide valuable feedback on how to improve (for both personal and professional development).
There was always something to do, but there were times where there was more pressure to get something done.
The responsibility increased over the year, and I was given the opportunity to carry out various projects. It was great to know the work I did actually impacted the department.
It has been an invaluable experience with so many skills learnt. It has opened my eyes to how the industry operates, meaning I will be able to relate my final year studies into a retail context.
The Company
It was a laid back but fast-paced atmosphere in the office. People would have fun, but still worked hard.
There were master-classes for the interns, which was a great way to get to know each other better, There seemed to be more training at the start of the year, so this could have been carried on more towards the end. There was a mentor scheme introduced at the beginning, but there was confusion at the start as to who my mentor was, and was not maintained throughout the year.
There was a lot of training on offer, if you felt there was a session that would be beneficial, you were able to request to go on it. As already mentioned there were personal/professional development sessions most months for all the interns. Along with other members of the technical team, we took part in a pattern cutting course, this was once a week over a period of a month. It was great to have the opportunity to learn a new skill, and improve the understanding of the product development stages. I also went on a textile testing course in Leeds, and visited Johnsons dry cleaners head office to learn more about the processes involved.

Future prospects are great, a lot of previous interns have returned to ASOS, and I have been signed off to the next level which is a great achievement.
The Culture
There was more going on towards the beginning, but people tended to become closer to the teams they worked with.
London is expensive, but with the salary you earn and student loan I actually went out more in London than I did at Uni. You will always be able to find something to do, especially in Camden, and you didn't have to spend a lot of money if you didn't want to..it would depend where you went. I had such a great time living in London.
Camden had a lot of places to go out, but the office is generally central to London, so was easy to go to other places if you wanted. I lived near Camden as well, so it was easy to get home from after a night out, and there was so many night buses that also meant you could easily get home from other areas of London.
There was a netball team you could get involved with if you wished, and there was fitness classes available which were really cheap. There is a massive summer and Christmas party which were great fun. Menswear also had there own parties, including at Halloween.
