About You
The 3 day insight scheme was highly insightful. It was my first time in a commercial environment and the staff- both lawyers and non-lawyers were friendly and approachable. It was an enjoyable experience which I would recommend.
Like all Law firms, the lawyers are notoriously busy which is completely understandable. So during my time spent with the trainee solicitor, I felt a little like I was stepping on her toes. Then again, to see how hectic a Law firm can be is probably the most insightful experience you can get!
The scheme was great for developing commercial awareness as not only did we have a negotiation skills workshop but we had a presentation and interactive workshop guiding us to develop more commercial awareness which, as any aspiring lawyer knows is very difficult to come by!
Commercial awareness, networking, presentations and negotiation skills- of such a nature which I never had prior to the workshop- are transferrable skills in any work place.
The Company
It was very well organised and everything ran very smoothly indeed.
I feel the scheme struck a nice balance between doing real serious work and meeting young people with similar interests which was fun!
The scheme was paid and, as such, I felt valued. Normally such insight schemes are unpaid and are primarily for the gain of work experience. The payment aspect was therefore a nice touch.
Witnessing the general busy lives of the solicitors was very insightful of the real world! 'This is the working world people' was a phrase tossed around by the graduate recruitment team.
There was an atmosphere of approachability and friendliness. The various lunches and networking opportunities organised by BLP provided an ideal opportunity to meet a vast range of Lawyers and trainees from a range of sectors.
Everything Else
The pay was about £150.00 for the three days and travel expenses were reimbursed.
Lots of networking opportunities, which, if anything, becomes a little tiring!
Food and drink were provided.
Some of the trainees discussed the sporting activities available outside of the work place.
I had a great time and it was very insightful.
