About You
This insight was enjoyable. There was a mix of talks and time spent in the actual seat. We also had social events. These weren't quite as good as other firms though and tended to drag on a bit.
I felt a bit of a hindrance during this insight. Much if my time was spent checking signatures on documents and reading the Economist rather than doing real work which would have been of value to the solicitors.
We were given some guidance and support during the insight. This largely comprised of the talks such as one on the elusive concept of commercial awareness. Not much guidance offered really.
Given the insight was three days long, there was limited time to pick up new skills. However, the work was very repetitive and we did not have the opportunity to pick up much information or build new skills.
The Company
Generally well structured although some of the talks finished late which impacted on our schedules. More variety during the scheme was needed.
There was a good atmosphere during my insight. People were friendly and seemed to support each other. Emphasis was on teamwork.
The talks were good in terms of developing commercial awareness. However, there was limited amounts of IT training or time actually spent in our seat learning unfortunately.
I understood what being a solicitor at the firm was like. The staff were honest and were happy to offer opinions on work.
I was able to understand what the culture of the firm is like. It is generally friendly with a strong emphasis on working together in a collegiate atmosphere.
Content of the talks helped with what a career in law would be like. However the tasks we were given to do were not difficult. Realistic tasks would have been more useful.
Everything Else
Pay was good and covered expenses.
A couple of networking events but these were too fueled by alcohol. This was disappointing as people did not really focus on conversations.
Network opportunities could be improved by having a better variety and by sending a better range of people to the events.
We were not given much information on anything. Much of this can be found by searching though the internet. However, more information would have been helpful.
It was a good insight and helpful when applying for other schemes. However, the content of the day was not the best unfortunately.
