    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • While working for GE Capital, I was an important member of the team and I was given tasks that would make a difference to the business. My input counted towards the total output. I enjoyed working in a team of extremely talented, enthusiastic, passionate people. Overall, I loved my placement.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My manager and the team gestured me very nicely initially. Within a few days, I was receiving emails like every other member of the team. The team didn't make it awkward for me and the conversations helped me merge into the work ethics easily.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was based in US, he was my mentor giving me feedback and guidance on the best ways to approach a certain task. He provided me so much support which made me feel instantly like part of the team and that the work I was doing actually counts.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As my manager was in US and he wanted to ensure that I have enough on my plan. He used to give me tasks and it was down to me to set the deadlines and meet them. So on average a typical day will be really busy, with meetings, teleconferencing and regular email conversation etc.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was involved in various projects during my placement, I was responsible for many tasks mainly working to provide in-house solution to many different business problems, and my contributions to those tasks made real influence to the company. At the start of my placement, I was asked to help one of the teams with their project. However due to my enthusiasm and dedication towards work, I was declared the PM of one the projects for the business.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Altogether, placement helped me realize the importance of achieving work experience while following a degree. It covers the essential practical segment which we tend to ignore when receiving education most of the time. Therefore I recommend a placement year to all higher educational students at some stage within their higher studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was very fortunate in the first few months, as my team was global and I didn't have a lot of friendly atmosphere. But later we moved with one of the GE Capital business, and the employees were really friendly.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • WE never had interns in our team before, so I was the experimental intern for the first few months. But as the time went past, my manager became more organised and aware of internship process. It was great fun.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • If I needed to travel ,the company paid the expenses. I needed different devices for my role and my manager invested the money to get me an ipad 2 and samsung galaxy tab.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Oh yes. We had a intern group f 12 GE Capital interns only and more than 40 interns in GE.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was ok. Socialising was good but living was a rip off. £1400 a month for one bedroom flat.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Amazing. Working in hammersmith gave me a few choices. But being close to Central london gave me choices and we usually spent our nights at bar or something.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I had great chance to network, volunteer. Company supports these kind of interests.
