The Role
I was really pleased to have my own schemes to work through and I felt I was given a lot of responsibility adn independence to develop the schemes.
My colleagues were very open, approachable and treated me the same as the other staff who had been there for years. I was given my own desk in the office sitting with a good mix of people and didnt feel left out.
My management in the section were very helpful and approachable. My line mamager sat across the desk from me and was always open to questions. On a few occassions management gave talks and we had video presentations from the Chief Executive and a visit from the MD.
I had enough work to keep me going along as I was in charge of progressign my own projects. If work was slow, I could ask for more. On a few occassions I as very busy but it wasnt un-manageable.
Although the projects were small, I was solely project managing them, but with more senior staff always close by for advice.
The in-office experience and the communication and scheme development skils I learned will be very useful. In terms of engineering skills, I am not sure I will use them in my future career as they are very specific to teh job I was doing for the company.
The Company
The office was open plan with a great bunch of people who were always friendly. It was a hard working office but with an open atmosphere.
Very well organised with good induction for students and the work I was given was well thought out for my abilities. I had my own palce in the company and fitted in easily with everyone keen for me to be involved.
The company was keen to train me for all the aspects of the job I needed.
Company Parties/Events
I am not sure as to whether I want to continue with this branch of engineering, but the company have been great and have mentioned the possibility of future employment prospects.
The Culture
Social events were organised and I had lunch every day with or members of staff. Students were also invited to the Christmas night even though our placement ends in September.
I lived at a rented flat while on placement and knew the cheap places in the area.
Glasgow is good for nightlife.
We were always invited to social events such as music quizzes, hill climbs, lunches, bowling and nights out.
