The Role
I found working with Amey this summer really enjoyable and a good experience. The office had a good atmosphere and was a nice place to work in.
I felt as though I was a useful and valued member of staff in the office.
I felt as though support and guidance was there if needed, and had no problems asking if I was struggling with something, always recieving useful help.
Work was quiet at times, but generally the balance was about right.
I felt as though I was given a reasonable degree of responsibility, I think it was about the right amount, and as I got futher into the placement I felt as though I was being given more responsibility as people became more aware of my ability to do the work.
I learned skills that will be valuable if I pursue a career in this area of work
The Company
The office had a god atmosphere and was a nice place to be.
Parts of the placement were very poorly organised, the start date was delayed and the HR system seemed very uncordinated. On the day we started we were supposed to be working from computers, but the HR and I.T departments hadn't coordinated us ahving a log-in or access to the computers, so the first day was a bit of a waste, References were only sought over 6 weeks after starting, and paperwork appeared to get lost in the system. Information was often not given out, and we were being chased up to hand in reports that we hadn't ever been asked to write. We were asked if we would be interested in further work and sponsorship from the company which was great, however we didn't ever recieve any information on this before we were asked to make a decision. That said however, actually within the office things were very well organised, with work arranged for me before I started, and there were always things for me to be doing.
Within the office people were very helpful in explaining things fully and trying to give you a wider understanding of the work. There was no professional training to speak of, but that was expected as it would have been a waste of resources for only a 3 month placement.
We have been offered the opportunity to apply for continuing part time work and sponsorship, however there wasn't actually any information about what it would entail, or how to actually apply.
The Culture
As I drove from home every day I didn't go out in the area near the office.
