    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My placement year was hard work but has definitely built up my confidence. it opened me up to a lot of opportunities with regards to projects given to me.

  • I was always praised and tanked for work I contributed within the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was always able to ask questions if I needed assistance however big or small. The amount of support I was given was tremendous allowing my abilities to strengthen.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was always busy and had to managed day-day tasks amongst my main priorities/projects. sometimes it was difficult to prioritise but throughout the placement this become a lot more easy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement and was definitely a team player within a small team of three people.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am a lot more able to analytically evaluate situations before I try to solve them whether it be a trivial chore or work for my University studies. common sense amongst skills have developed greatly whilst being on placement.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • At times the office was quite sparse. Many of the managers had meetings to attend and this affected the office environment a lot. also due to small teams and large work loads, many people where busy, in-turn the office was quite quite. There was occasional chit-chat but nothing that latest more than 10-15 mins as work had to be completed.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My placement was definitely a proper job. I was sent on relevant training courses and got stuck into my projects from a very early stage. I did not feel as though I was a student due to the fact that I had a proper job role and was part of a team.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I attended a few training sessions which where at the beginning of my placement. Once I was more settled within the role - no further training sessions were allocated to me, this may have been due to budget.

  • Subsidised Canteen

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I may apply for the graduate scheme at BMW UK Ltd, although places open a year after I graduate and I want to get into work as soon as my degree finishes.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were 18 interns whilst working at BMW UK Ltd. We were all extremely close and spent time together outside of work.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Bracknell was close to reading, cost of living was quite cheap i.e. bills. Eating out and socialising was not bad either.

  • I was a 7min train ride from reading so the night-life was good.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were no activities for girls within BMW UK Ltd. There was a men's football groups but that was it.
