The Role
If you are looking for a place that cares for its employees, as well as pushing them to perform, develop and progress every skill they possess, this is the place for you.
You may make the odd cup of tea, but so does everyone else - you are employed on an equal standing, not as a drinks runner!
On commencement of employment, I was asked which direction I wanted my career to progress in, and they adapted my placement to suit that. Unfortunately due to a traffic incident, I had to take 3 months off during my placement. HR personnel, Managers, and colleagues came to visit me in hospital and at home, showing they have an interest in their employees beyond the company doors.
Due to the nature of the motorsport industry, if something is needed, it is needed very quickly. You will work hard, but you will get your rewards, of that you can be sure.
Show the correct commitment and drive, and you will soon be given jobs and responsibilities far in excess of most other placements! If they like what they see, they will work hard with you to push your boundaries - the area where you learn most and progress.
I believe my placement at MBHPE has broadened me to a level I wouldn’t believe before commencement. This progress is dependant on hard work and commitment, so don’t think you will benefit at all from doing the minimum! If you want to do that, don’t even apply. Its like the marines, 99.99% need not apply. If they see your potential, then you are on a very good road.
The Company
You have to be serious in this industry. There is no space for larking around! However, everyone is friendly and gets on very well. There is the occasional disagreement, but this is normally about who will win the next race!
There is a very good structure for each interns duration. They aim to rotate you within the business so you can see other departments, so dont think you will be put in a broom cupboard for the whole year.
Within weeks of employment, it had been established I was to follow a designers work path, and as a result I was put through a weeks 1-to-1 CAD training with an enormously experienced trainer. This would have cost an unbelievable amount from an external organisation, and it gave me skills I would otherwise never have gained.

If you show the correct attitude, you are in with a very good chance. This is a highly oversubscribed company, so only the best will get selected. Please dont waste their time with the wrong attitude, as you will be taking a place 100's of people want more than you!
The Culture
There is little if none 'them and us' attitudes from the permanant employees. You are helping them as much as they are helping you. Students form quick bonds, and socialise with the others frequently. Even permanant staff join in, making the atmosphere even better.
Coming from university in the north, things seem a lot more expensive, however you are enarning a lot more than at uni so dont worry. If you are from down south, you have absolutely no worries.
Northampton is not the best. You normally end up in the same place at the end of each night, but thats not the be all and end all.
On race weekends, normally someone invites people round to watch the F1 at theirs, or you will go to a pub shoing it. Numerous karting races at the local tracks are great fun, and HIGHLY competitive.
