The Role
Amazing placement with great people for a really reputable company.
I was able to lead in discussions that influenced £MM decisions and I delievered something of importance - not just a waste of time.
I was really lucky with my manager who was excellent - he would put my name forwards to the big bosses and worked for me to get recognision. Other managers were also good.
You can work with flexi-hours so that you can work the hours you want. You don't have to "clock-in" and "clock-out". Its more about what you deliever.
I was the formulator working on a big project worth a lot of money so the responsibility of the work was large but not oppressive. I was also able to lead my work in meetings so wasn't just stuck in the lab.
Only downside is that it's not academic research so its not as chemistry intense. However in terms of gaining skills for work outside of academia, this was perfect as they actively try to improve you as a rounded individual.
The Company
Office atmosphere was good and everyone was friendly but I know that other departments on site are less formal.
Work was there to be done from day one and was organised to help you understand what it is you're there for.
There's a lot of courses that you can go on but its up to you to sign on.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Healthcare from home
I expect to be offered a job with them.
The Culture
Atmosphere was good and plenty of interested stories but a fair few lived locally and went home most weekends.
I come from the north were its insulting to pay over £2.50 for a pint. Rent is expensive (I paid £340pppm).
Could definitely be better but London's only 40mins away on the train.
Depends on what you want to do - work offers plenty of activities and sports clubs etc.
