Overview
My role focused on 3 key areas: - ongoing product costing for all purchased and produced materials. - management of month end processes. - management and support with customer queries through the team's query management process.
Skills
Developed key cost accounting knowledge throughout my placement year, specifically developing understanding of the standard costing process. First interface with SAP, KNIME and Power BI which I had not used previously. Development of softer skills particularly in communication, leadership and project management.
Responsibilities
From day 1 responsibility was incredibly high. I was able to own a lot of projects and get involved in a variety of different projects throughout my time on placement.
Support & Guidance
A lot, 1 to 1 with management on a monthly basis as well as quarterly reviews with a wider management team. Buddy scheme also in place.
Culture
Company culture was great, encouraged interns to challenge ideas and to take ownership of their work. Created an environment which encouraged you to push yourself. When mistakes are made the culture is very much how we can learn from that which I think is important.
Your Impressions
I loved my placement, it allowed me to experience at he "business world" at first hand. My team were amazing throughout my time on placement and made me feel one of the team, not just the "intern". Opportunities were endless and I grew so much during my time on placement.
