Overview
In Banking, my specific hours were around 7-3 although there is flexible working across the company. In the morning, I completed Front Office daily cash management to ensure the balance between accounts being funded for payments whilst not having too much cash on the account. I did more Middle Office bank account management in the afternoon and project work. An example of some project work was some testing on a new automated solution which was being created in Front Office at the time.
Skills
Professional skills developed daily through writing emails, learning to work with a manager and the team. Presentation skills were practiced through quarterly presentations to the Rise Up team. My agility was also developed as I constantly managed multiple deadline-driven projects, I worked between Front Office and Middle Office, and changed to working from home overnight due to COVID-19.
Responsibilities
Yes, as much responsibility as the rest of my team.
Support & Guidance
The buddy system was very useful, each intern always has someone outside of their team to ask for support and guidance. Also, the Rise-Up team are always there to help with support and guidance. My manager was faultless at continuously giving me new challenges to help me develop,
Culture
Great work-life balance. On the whole, the culture and atmosphere was welcoming, friendly and supportive.
Your Impressions
It was fantastic, I can appreciate how much I developed both professionally but also personally within my 14-month placement. I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I was part of the team, and valued and the responsibility I was given, for example, I was responsible for working with the site directors to get important documents signed. It was also very nice to be appreciated by the Rise-Up team who invited me to do University talks, and how the colleagues I met through the 'Blind Lunch' were genuinely interested in me.
Yes
I would say everyone at P&G really abides by the PVP's and therefore if these resonate with you, this is the company for you. If that is also the case, then be yourself in your interview. If you have any concerns or worries, speak to your manager or someone you can trust immediately as they will always be addressed. I would also consider the location you want to work as as far as I know, if you desire to work in Finance then this role is fixed to Newcastle.
