The Role
I really enjoyed my placement, I had lots of responsibility and was not treated any differently to full time staff. I spent 6 months on branded and 6 months on own buy which was obviously a great opportunity for me, the only negative I would say is that I was only informed the friday before that I would be moving departments the following Monday. As a intern a felt a little daunted and unsupported.
Especially on my first department, I felt like a valued and essential member of the team. I am still in contact with my colleagues and count them as good friends.
Both buyers for the entire year fully supported and guided and taught. Especially during a BAA assessment day, my buyer really encouraged me and made me feel at ease. The only time I felt unsupported was when I was told I would be moving departments. I felt one of the heads of department should have spoken to me to reassure me why I was moving etc.
I was usually very busy but never overwhelmed. I believe being busy however actually taught me lots of great lessons and made a better employee as a result.
Especially on my first department, there were many areas that I was solely responsible. I never felt like anybody was checking up on me and when my BA was ill for 2 months I was delegated her tasks with no questions asked. On my 2nd department I felt I was slightly babied, however I think was just due to my Buyers nature rather than the way the placement was ran.
I believe I learnt more during my time on placement than I have done in uni, I now know what to expect when I am eventually employed and believe I am 100% more employable due to my time on placement. I am also finding my final year easier in terms of time management.
The Company
The nicest head office atmosphere I have ever experienced. Everybody knows everyone, the parties are amazing and no pretension throughout. Heads of happily address you by your first name and show genuine interest.
In terms of work absolutely perfect. However there we're very few intern sessions/catchups during the first half of the year...however this did improve during the second half.
As mentioned above, during the second half of the year we received lots of valuable training and time was invested in us. I still have contact with HR have temped after my placement finished
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I hope to have a job with ASOS when I graduate, I am about to start an ongoing temping position back at the company so my prospects are high
The Culture
The placement students all got on well but tended to stick with their departments, which is a good sign showing everyone felt comfortable and didn't have to cling onto their fellow students. In terms of colleagues, we had lunch together, went out together confided in each other and I am still good friends with them
London is pretty standardly expensive anywhere.
Camden is ok for going out, their was often money at the bar of the pub opposite when the company won awards etc. The company hosted parties throughout London though at some incredible venues
Lots of socialising . There were quite aot of sporting opportunities however I doubt any of the interns felt they could take part in these, though its definitely something I would have been keen to do.
