    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Every job has its moments but the people you work with always make it better for you.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Throughout the year I grew in confidence due to this encouragement of feeling part of the team at Procter and Gamble

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • They would always be there if I needed to ask anything but they were also keen for me to try and work out how to do things myself.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In the run up for the beginning of december it gets a little busy but the last couple of weeks before were generally quiet. January is always busy. My advice for a quiet day is to ask if there is anything new you can learn so that you take more away from your placement.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • By the end of it I was leading projects from start to finish. The responsibility grew during my placement as I became more confident in my new skill base.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • A placement should give you a broad range of skills and a huge boost of confidence. The main skill I will take forward id the professional approach to work that I have learnt being in a company as important as Procter and Gamble. I learnt to use Injection Moulding machines, Blow Moulding machines, Laser Sintering machines, Professional finishing and spraying of concept models, Casting, Vacuum forming, CNC tooling and many more.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great crowd, good banter, love them all to bits.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was the first design student to be taken on by Procter and Gamble in the R&D site so it had a few problems but overall no complaints.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They gave me training on all the machines and also training days out. The most impressing thing was the support I gained through my final year at Brunel and the use of all the Facilities, such as the Rapid Prototyping machines, was invaluable.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Within the Procter and Gamble site in Egham im not sure. There is currently a freeze on taking on new design people due to the head count being too high but the way I got around that was to be contracted there by an outside design company called OTO3D (google it). They have strong links with the design department and so I was lucky enough to be offered a full time job back after University.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Being in the design area means your sometimes out of the loop and also being a contractor you never get invited to things but I met all the students through working on projects for them and we spent many a night drinking and had a fantastic christmas dinner together.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • fairly high as it is Surrey but there is Royal Holloway University just round the corner and cheap rooms with students are available. This is great because of all the student opportunities like cheap drinks and meeting new people.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not great in Egham but Windor has a liquid and the flag ship weatherspoons in the UK so its really good there. £5 taxi ride away from Egham

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Played golf with a few people form work but there was more opportunities. It was hard to find out about all of them being a contractor though.

    4/5
