    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thought it was a great experience. It introduced me to the world of finance and although audit isn't something that I decided to go into, it was a great way to spend to summer vacation.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I really felt valued whilst in the team. My seniors were very helpful and gave me a lot of guidance when I needed further help with my work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was assigned a counselor and a buddy from day one and they were all extremely supportive and helped me to feel settled instantly.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On a daily basis, I usually had work, however, audit does have its downtime and in these moments I was usually sent to help out other departments.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility suited to my experience and I took charge of my work wherever possible.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a lot about excel which I have used occasionally whilst at university. In addition, I worked in a number of teams so I feel that my teamworking skills were greatly harnessed.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I didn't spend too much time in the office as the majority of the time I was at the client's site, however, when I was at the office there was a good atmosphere with the other interns.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was reasonably well organised, though I had a few difficulties in obtaining the clients I specifically requested for.

  • We had a whole weeks worth of training initially before we started client work.

  • I was able to secure a graduate position but decided that the industry was not for me!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Definitely! We often socialised after work when we were reasonably close to the office!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is very expensive and I found that the majority of the week I was eating out because I was coming home quite late!

  • The nightlife was fantastic, as after all it is London!

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I played in one football match while I was there! They have lots of different sports activities as well as other networking groups.
