    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. The structure of the session overall was well organised and kept too throughout the day. The individual and group sessions not only provided useful feedback on how you work as an individual in a group but also your personality type. However I felt some of the sessions may have been slightly misguided considering the audience. But this was a very minor defect to the session as the quality of it rectified this.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very valued, we all got along well thanks to the activities arranged throughout the session. It gave us valuable time to assess one another and get to know one another's strengths and abilities. This in turn allowed us to work stronger together as a group. It created a great atmosphere for work as well as occasional banter which lifted the pressure and tension.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • We were fully supported throughout the placement. At the beginning there was a specified session for asking any questions about the day or sessions which were going to take place. At the end of the session our supervisor gave person specific constructive criticism on how we performed during the entire day. There was also a question and answer session at the end which was helpful in summing up the entire day. So overall we were given fantastic support by the management staff.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • We were busy throughout the day with fun and interacting work however there was also the perfect balance of breaks to give ourselves some time to get to know one another. Although we were busy it was not the case of being bored with work. The tasks were fun and intuitive this took away the feeling of being bored as we immersed ourselves in the task.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • There were individual sessions in which the internships were left alone to mingle and produce presentations and projects. However this was all kept in balance as we were overseen by an EY employee. This helped keep us on track as well as allowing a point of reference. It allowed us all to have some responsibility in turn.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It definitely provided insight into future pathways into education and work. We also developed our knowledge on the firm and how it can help us. In one particular session we learnt how to treat a client and organise an interview. In this I volunteered to ask the client questions. This was an experience which I will definitely use beyond my studies throughout my working career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • We were all aware of our surroundings, this helped us get down to work. But we also enjoyed some quick banter which helped the atmosphere flow and allowed everyone to interact with one another.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organised. I believe there were 4 breaks during the day. This however did not mean that we slacked during the day, we worked diligently throughout the day. Whenever we felt a break was needed one was always scheduled. There were resources always to hand and help whenever we asked for it.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I feel the fact we were allowed to spend time with an actual employee, who could have been billing their time, was a great experience. As it allowed an insight into their careers with EY. They also gave us materials and resources that we can use in the future, in terms of personal development the firm left nothing to chance.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Healthcare/Dental

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They support many different paths into their firm. Regardless of higher education or not. It allowed us to see that anything we were comfortable with we could achieve within the firm. This gave me individually great hope as before I was not to confident about going into higher education and £30,000+ debt.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As this insight day was only one day long this question is difficult to apply. However throughout the day I got along well with all of the other students there. We all had opportunities to mingle through task work. We all took part in some ice-breaker activities in the morning which helped us all to get along with one another.
