The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Amey. Before I started I was a bit disapointed that I would have little time to myself during the break from uni however it's provided me with great experience and I would definetly consider applying again next year. The summer has flown in because I've enjoyed myself so much.
I have found all the colleagues to be very friendly and approachable. They are always happy to take time to answer any questions I have had and they have allocated work that gets me involved with their projects.
Like my colleagues, they have always been happy to take time to answer any questions and point me in the right direction.
I have always been involved with some sort of work over the summer. Whenever a job was nearing completion, something else would always come up. As a result of this I have had a varied range of worthwhile experience.
I was very suprised at the amount of responsibility that I was given during the placement. Having just completed 1st year at Uni I was suprised to get the placement in the 1st place. I have had reports submitted to the client, been required to make decisions on suitability of contractors and I've been responsible for preparing important contractual documents.
The skills I have learned will be invaluable towards my development. This is my first experience of working in the industry and it has definetly prepared me for the future. Some of the graduates have been going over important ICE membership criteria with us which will definetly give us an advantage when looking for jobs in the future and ultimately gaining proffesional status.
The Company
The office had a friendly atmosphere. It is split up into relativley small departments and everyone was willing to help each other out.
The placement was well organised. The students were all split so they could assist graduates and senior engineers with their jobs. This meant we were all getting 1st hand experience of important projects.
As I have already mentioned, a couple of the graduates have spent a good deal of time going over ICE documents with us so we are aware of what is involved in gaining professional accreditation. Amey have also given me a great deal of responsibility which will definatly help me development.

Company Parties/Events
Having experienced the varied work that Amey do, I would definatly consider applying in the future. There is a good balance of varried office and site work within this organisation so neither becomes repetitave.
The Culture
I've got to know all the other students well. The traffic survey that we carried out in England was a good oppertunity to socialise with them. We plan to stay in touch after the placement is finished.
It is pretty average in comparison to other places I've experienced. I was able to live at home which kept living costs to a minimum
This nightlife can be pretty good in Glasgow but it is a bit quieter over the summer months with many of the students returning home.
There has been a few social activities such as talent show, hillwalks, nights out organised.
