    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • From the word go, i was developed as an operational intern within GE Aviation. My role developed throughout the year as did the level of responsibility, i would recommend this internship to anyone who as the drive/determination to lead teams of individuals in a high paced environment.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • GE Aviation employ's over 18,000 people in the UK and not once did i feel like a number, my manager and mentor developed my leadership skills from the word go and my colleagues valued my input and i was awarded for my efforts!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • A continuous development programme was introduced by both my mentor and manager. It enabled me to identify key areas to improve as the year went on. Regular meetings with HR and intern mentors meant i was able to seek advice when needed. The intern programme is seen as a key scheme in identifying future talent for the company, your role will be important and will effect the business success.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was never a spare moment, my role enabled me to get involved with different functioning teams across various engineering and operations disciplines. I didn't once need to ask for more work. Great opportunities to get involved with volunteering and charity events aswell.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My role developed throughout the year as did the level of responsibility, by the end of the year i was running teams of individuals to ensure production deadlines were met, fantastic for developing leadership skills.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I will utilize the skills i have learnt in all future jobs, the training i received will enable me to adapt my drive and enthusiastic for the aviation industry and help secure a job as a graduate. I attended various training exercise during the year and felt like a full time employee.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Fast paced, friendly and always ready to help! All members of the teams were keen to give a helping hand especially during the first 6months

  • The scheme aims to identify key talent for the future of the business, the internship was organised well and information packs were given at the beginning of the year.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Training, management development and volunteering activities ensured that you personally developed throughout the year. I felt the company invested alot of time for me and that my work didn't go unnoticed

  • The scheme aims to identify key talent for the future of the business, the business has excellent graduate schemes that interns are encouraged to apply for.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • With nearly 60 Interns at the business there was always someone to talk to and go out with. Interns are encouraged to socialize outside of work to build good relationships within work!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cardiff was cheap to live in and social scene in the city was abundant, plenty of pubs to watch the footy in aswell.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • So many clubs, bars and pubs to go to and with so many interns at the business, going out was never a problem

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Volunteering, all sorts of sports clubs to join and charity work meant that activities outside of work were endless.
