The Role
I really enjoyed my year at Heinz and was sad to leave at the end of the 12 months.
I gained positive feedback on a regular basis from my colleagues and was often asked for my opinion on projects.
Heinz gives you a mentor when you join, this person is usually someone who has worked in a similar role to you. My mentor was fantastic and I could go to with them with any problems. My manager was always availble if I needed any help and were happy to pass on knowledge.
As I was involved with large projects I was often very busy which is how I like to be. I never felt like I was left with nothing to do or sat round bored.
I was given projects to managed and was able to run my own factory trials after training. I felt like I was trusted to own and drive projects.
I learnt alot during my time at Heinz, not just within R&D but also about other areas of the business.
The Company
The office is open plan and there was generaly a good atmosphere, everyone was happy to talk to you. There was changes going on within the department that could have made things difficult however this never impacted on me.
At the beginning of the placement things were slightly disjointed due to changes within the programme taking place, however after the first month everthing ran well.
Even though I was only there for 12 months I was included in all the company events designed around personal developmen. As well as this I was encouraged to seek out any extra training I wanted within other areas of the business.

There is a graduate scheme available within R&D and I have been encouraged to keep in touch if I want the opportunity. I will deffinately be keeping them in mind when the time comes to apply.
The Culture
I spent alot of time socialising with other graduates and have made some good friends from working at Heinz.
As I was based at the Kitt Green site in Wigan, the cost of living is realitivly inexpensive.
Wigan has a good range of pubs and bars and with Manchester and Liverpool around 30 to 40 mins away there is something for everyone.
Heinz has a social club called the 57 Club. They run a variety of activites often subsidised, including trips to theme parks, the theatre and nights out.
