    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my year at Heinz and was sad to leave at the end of the 12 months.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I gained positive feedback on a regular basis from my colleagues and was often asked for my opinion on projects.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Heinz gives you a mentor when you join, this person is usually someone who has worked in a similar role to you. My mentor was fantastic and I could go to with them with any problems. My manager was always availble if I needed any help and were happy to pass on knowledge.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As I was involved with large projects I was often very busy which is how I like to be. I never felt like I was left with nothing to do or sat round bored.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given projects to managed and was able to run my own factory trials after training. I felt like I was trusted to own and drive projects.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt alot during my time at Heinz, not just within R&D but also about other areas of the business.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is open plan and there was generaly a good atmosphere, everyone was happy to talk to you. There was changes going on within the department that could have made things difficult however this never impacted on me.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • At the beginning of the placement things were slightly disjointed due to changes within the programme taking place, however after the first month everthing ran well.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Even though I was only there for 12 months I was included in all the company events designed around personal developmen. As well as this I was encouraged to seek out any extra training I wanted within other areas of the business.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is a graduate scheme available within R&D and I have been encouraged to keep in touch if I want the opportunity. I will deffinately be keeping them in mind when the time comes to apply.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I spent alot of time socialising with other graduates and have made some good friends from working at Heinz.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As I was based at the Kitt Green site in Wigan, the cost of living is realitivly inexpensive.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Wigan has a good range of pubs and bars and with Manchester and Liverpool around 30 to 40 mins away there is something for everyone.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Heinz has a social club called the 57 Club. They run a variety of activites often subsidised, including trips to theme parks, the theatre and nights out.
