    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Media scanning for reputation management, flagging anything negative in the press. Calls with PR company/ Government Affairs stakeholders. Internal approval of press kit materials and social media. Work on the internal newsletter. Press Release writing potentially based on the day. Content management working with departments across the UK and Ireland.

  • Project Management, confidence, time management, stakeholder management, teamwork, professionalism, networking, industry understanding, conflict resolution have all majorly developed. Mixture of hard and soft skills like press release and white paper writing, use of internal processes, social media statistics, data analysis.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Wholly responsible for multiple applications, projects, and tasks, for example Communications around Pride in London 2023, Rabies Awareness Campaign, Internal Newsletter input, Condolence Statement on behalf of the company for The Queen. Co-Lead and project manager of the Early Talent Forum. Core Member of the MSD Rainbow Alliance.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Positive and supportive. Family-like feel within the student cohort, as well as the wider business. Encouraged to be yourself and to express yourself internally and externally, opportunity to give your opinion and speak up.
